Scott Brooks

"The Alternate Raw Material Lab saves thousands of dollars a year and allows us to perpetually leverage opportunities for further cost savings," says Scott Brooks, associate R&D scientist.

"In order to evaluate potential raw material replacements, JB Labs created an Alternate Raw Material Laboratory," says Scott. "We prioritize opportunities and make pilot scale batches to assess how alternate materials perform in our existing formulations."

This collaborative effort between the Purchasing department and R/D has saved thousands and is a perpetual engine for future opportunities.

"Better planning and coordination among our vendors has allowed us to cut our inbound freight costs by as much as 65% in some areas," says Debby Hickerty, VP, materials management. "This has become increasingly important as fuel costs continue to climb."

As VP of Materials, Deb is involved in many process improvement initiatives. Lowering freight costs is just one of many ways Deb provides Valuactive savings to our customers.

"In one example, we passed along $100,000 in annual savings to our customer, thanks to quality systems we implemented with a new vendor," says Paresh Hansji, quality manager.

"Success in Quality is measured by the success of the entire supply chain," says Paresh. "Knowledge is only effective when it is shared."

"The Lean Transformation Initiative has helped us save countless labor hours in equipment changeovers, and significant dollars in reduced inventory," says Alan deFries, continuous improvement leader.

"Lean Enterprise is about more than just finding waste; it's an opportunity to help employees understand their jobs better so that they can be a part of improving total quality," says Alan, leader of JB Labs' Lean Transformation Initiative.
